Speakers Bio
Eizo Takashima is a Professor and the Head of the Division of Malaria Research at the Proteo-Science Center, Ehime University, Japan. He is also a Visiting Professor at Mount Kenya University. He obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences from Tokyo Medical and Dental University. He has an extensive research background in the field of malaria research, with a particular focus on antigen expression and identification of malaria vaccine candidates.
Before joining Ehime University, he worked as a scientist at Merck Research Laboratories in Japan, Banyu Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. and as an Assistant Professor at The Nippon Dental University. He also served as a Visiting Scientist at the Département de Parasitologie et Mycologie, Institut Pasteur, and as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Minnesota.
Prof . Takashima’s research is primarily focused on the development of malaria vaccines and the identification of novel blood-stage vaccine candidates. His research group has developed a “Malaria protein factory” using the wheat-germ cell-free system (WGCFS) to efficiently synthesize recombinant malaria proteins in functional form, generating more than 4000 proteins and raising over 500 animal anti-plasmodial antibodies. Based on this, they have successfully profiled anti-plasmodium humoral immunity in different malaria- exposed populations and identified novel blood-stage vaccine candidates.
Prof. Takashima has published numerous research papers in top scientific journals, including Nature Medicine, Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Malaria, npjVaccines, and Science Reports. He also serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Immunology and Frontiers in Malaria and is a member of the editorial board for Heliyon, immunology section.
