Dr. Alfred Owino (PhD) is the chairman of Mount Kenya University Institutional Ethics Review Committee, a position he has held since November 2022.

Dr Owino has over ten (10) years University teaching experience, has served the University in various roles since his initial appointment, and currently serves as a Lecturer and Postgraduate Coordinator, School of Public Health. He holds MSc and PhD in Environmental Health and has research interests in Public Health Exposure Sciences, Environmental Carcinogenesis and Epidemiology, in addition to Public Health intervention designs and implementation science.

He has extensive training in research and public health bioethics. Besides, participating in UoN- NACOSTI- Kenya Strengthening Research Ethics Review and Oversight in Kenya (STReK) Mentorship Programme, and a short course training on Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research. He has published and co-published over 40 peer reviewed publications, and successfully supervised several postgraduate students including PhD candidates. He is a reviewer of journals including BMC Public Health, Environmental Health insights as well as with notable academic and government institutions in Kenya and outside Kenya.
